volunteer opportunities

WIBO is an organization of successful business owners and senior executives who volunteer valuable time and experience throughout the sixteen-week course. WIBO continuously seeks out caring professionals and business owners who have an interest in sharing their knowledge in a variety of ways that range in time commitment and experience levels.

The rewards of being a WIBO volunteer are endless. Each entrepreneur's intelligence, intensity, experience and eagerness to learn is inspiring. Over 70% of WIBO's participants are minorities and women from communities such as Harlem, Washington Heights, South Bronx, Yonkers, Saint Albans and Central Brooklyn. Volunteers are given the exciting task of bringing the workshop to life with real-life experience and knowledge. WIBO volunteers play an integral part in the success of each entrepreneur, as well as the development of New York's underserved communities.

DISCUSSION LEADERS

Discussion leaders introduce students to each aspect of managing a business. Using the case study method of instruction, discussion leaders direct eager entrepreneurs to an understanding of the relevance of a particular business activity to the success of their own business. After introducing a topic, the discussion leader will guide the students through their planning worksheets, nourishing the thought process by which students conduct that activity in their businesses.

your time commitment

You will select the topics, which you will facilitate as determined by your experience, knowledge and interest. You will also select the dates and locations where you wish to volunteer. You may choose to lead only one topic in one location, which is a time commitment of only one-three hour session or you may select multiple topics in several locations, which may consist of as many sessions as you choose.

WORKGROUP LEADERS

Workgroup leaders conduct small group discussions weekly, based on student planning sheets. This position is typically reserved for WIBO graduates.

COORDINATORS

Coordinators conduct each session to insure that students' needs are met and that sessions run smoothly. This position is typically reserved for WIBO graduates.

MARKETING POSITION

Do you have an outgoing personality? Are you a WIBO grad running a successful business? Take part in our marketing efforts by helping to run a WIBO table at the many fairs and expos that WIBO participates in throughout the year. You will be representing your fellow successful Alumni and your own business. Opportunities are scheduled as they become available.

GRADUATION VOLUNTEER STAFF

Held twice a year, WIBO graduations are a fun and exciting event for our entrepreneurs and partners. Be a part of the action and help with various tasks and preparations.

"The reward for a minimal time commitment came in the eager, attentive eyes of the students….and later in the realization that I had made a difference in their lives!"

—Amos Taylor, A WIBO volunteer
